How to book a volleyball, pickleball or basketball court in Edmonton and area
Who it's for: adults and groups who want to rent a gym or court for a game, a practice or a league night. Most public gyms here can't be booked instantly online. You check what's open, send a request, and staff confirm it. This page links to each facility's own booking page and notes what each one asks for.
Last checked Oct 23, 2026. Rules and prices change, so confirm with the facility before you book.
Before you ask for time
Know your sport, group size, and the days and times you want.
Know if your group is adults or minors, and whether it's a registered non-profit, an informal group, or paid (a coach, trainer or business). That decides which gyms you can use and the rate.
Have proof of liability insurance ready. School gyms and many rentals ask for it.
Ask early. Season time is shared out months ahead, and open time goes first come, first served.
NorthWest Wa doesn't book courts or take payments. Every link goes to the facility or booking service. None of the links on this page are affiliate links, and no venue pays to be listed.
City of Edmonton facilities
The City books its own recreation centre gyms and most school gyms. Its booking system is MoveLearnPlay. Start from the City pages below, which link to it.
Volleyball, basketball and pickleball (the City lists all three as gym uses).
How to book
Check availability on the City's MoveLearnPlay site (linked from the City page), then send the in-season request form. A booking coordinator replies. Requests are handled first come, first served. It isn't instant booking.
Notice
No minimum is published for one-off requests. Season-long time is shared out each March (for 2027/28, allocation starts in March 2027).
Who can book
Any group can ask for open time. Season allocation is for groups that used at least 18 hours last year, are in good standing, and generally have at least 75% Edmonton residents and 12 players per booking.
Rough cost
The City lists $103.70 an hour for adults in a large City gym (2026 rates, subject to change). See all rates ↗

How to book
Start from the City page, which links to each booking page.
Who can book
Individuals and groups. Tournaments in school gyms need school board and facility approval.
Rough cost
Shown on each linked booking page.
School gyms
Edmonton Public and Edmonton Catholic school gyms are shared with the community under the Joint Use Agreement. Which route you use depends on who's in your group and whether anyone is paid.
Edmonton
Joint-use school gyms (Edmonton Public and Edmonton Catholic)
Through the City of Edmonton, not the school. Under the Joint Use Agreement, the City books school gyms for community use outside school hours. Use the same City request form as for City gyms.
When
Weekdays, September to June. School gyms are closed in July and August. Weekend bookings need at least 3 hours, or must sit next to an existing booking.
Who can book
City programs, registered non-profits under Alberta's Societies Act, or informal groups without paid leadership. Paid coaches, trainers and for-profit groups don't qualify and rent from the school division instead (next entry).
Rough cost
The City lists $6.55 to $27.05 an hour for adults on weekdays, by gym size, and $78 an hour on weekends. Tournaments add $117 (2026 rates).
Edmonton
Edmonton Public Schools rentals (outside the Joint Use Agreement)
Make an account in eBase, accept the rental guidelines, then send a permit request. You show the permit to the custodian at each rental.
Notice
At least 10 days ahead. Requests sent with less than 10 days' notice aren't approved. Full payment is due 5 business days before.
Insurance
Proof of general liability insurance: $2 million for 1 to 4 bookings a year, $5 million for 5 or more. The certificate needs a 30-day cancellation clause.
When
Weekdays 5 to 10 PM, weekends 8 AM to 10 PM.
Who can book
For-profit groups, and non-profits booking outside joint-use times or activities.
Rough cost
See the rental rates PDF. Cancelling with less than 7 days' notice costs $50.
About the 10-day notice and insurance: the 10-day minimum and the $2 million or $5 million insurance amounts are Edmonton Public Schools rental rules (eBase). For joint-use gyms booked through the City, the City's licence agreement sets its own terms, so ask the City's gym booking team what insurance your booking needs.
University and private venues
Private venues often cost more, but many can be booked online the same week. Links only. Check rates and rules on each venue's page.
12 gyms lined for basketball, volleyball and badminton. Pickleball can be played in the basketball gyms.

Notice
Basketball rentals have limited space from October to March. Replies take up to 3 business days.
