♨ Wakura Onsen

A seaside onsen on the Noto Peninsula, home of the famous Kagaya ryokan. Check status: it is still rebuilding after the 2024 Noto earthquake.

Quick facts

The water

A sodium-calcium chloride spring.

History

The name means 'bubbling bay' because the spring was found in the sea. Legend says a fisherman couple saw a white heron healing itself in steaming water. The Maeda lords of Kaga improved the baths, and the town was badly damaged by the 2007 and 2024 Noto earthquakes.
