FAQ
How do I buy Bitcoin safely in Canada?
Use a platform that appears on the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) or OSC published lists of registered crypto trading platforms, then consider moving coins to a wallet you control. Registration is not a guarantee — always do your own checks.
What is a CSA-registered platform?
A crypto trading platform authorized to deal with Canadians under provincial securities rules (often listed by the CSA and OSC). We only list platforms that appear on those public regulator lists, and we re-check them regularly.
Where can I spend Bitcoin in Canada?
Cafés, restaurants, trades and shops across Canada accept Bitcoin — especially in cities like Vancouver and Toronto. Our merchant pages use businesses listed on BTC Map and checked by the community within the last year. Call ahead.
What is self-custody?
Holding your own Bitcoin keys (usually a 12- or 24-word recovery phrase) instead of leaving coins on a platform. See our wallets category and the free self-custody checklist PDF.
How do you verify listings?
Exchanges must appear on CSA/OSC published lists. Merchants come from BTC Map with recent community checks. ATMs point to Coin ATM Radar and operator sites. Podcasts, meetups and learning links go to official or organizer pages. Paid placements are labelled Sponsored.
Is this financial advice?
No. NorthWest Wa is educational only — not financial, legal or tax advice. Rules and listings change; confirm everything yourself before you act.
